Buying a house?
Most people wouldn't think of buying a house without getting a professional home inspection, however, most home inspectors are not qualified to test water quality.
If your home inspector says he or she can do a water test ask for his laboratory certification number and verify it by going to: http://www.dep.state.fl.us/labs/cgi-bin/aams/index.asp . This site is maintained by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and lists all state-certified labs in the state.
Why test the water quality?
Only a water test can tell you if you the plumbing is leaching dangerous amounts of Copper and Lead into your drinking water. This is a serious health concern and can be very
expensive to remedy.
What if the property is serviced by a private well?
Before you buy a property with a private well, the United States Environmental Protection Agency recommends that you have the water tested for Lead, Bacteria, and Nitrate and Nitrite.
